The evolution of what once was. The project is based on the premise of enhancing and preserving the existing building, finally providing it with the functional conditions it previously lacked. Outside, the impressive centuries-old oak tree — an element that has long influenced the local place-name — plays a central role in the intervention. Its patrimonial and symbolic value is acknowledged and protected, creating a harmonious link between the original structure and the new proposal, maintaining the rural character and offering a pleasant and welcoming outdoor space. The rehabilitation aims to restore the Minho identity of the site by using traditional regional materials such as wood and stone, preserving its authenticity and its connection to the territory. In a complementary contrast, an exposed-concrete structure embraces and “protects” the building, integrating all the new functions required for its full operation. This dialogue between tradition and contemporary design brings unity to the project, reinforcing the site’s character while projecting it toward the future.
